Why Save Battlefields
Why Save Battlefields?

"At the present time our public school systems pay little attention to how or why our country became "the land of the free and the home of the brave."  One way to teach American History not taught in the classroom is through the efforts of preservationists.  The protection and interpretation of historic Revolutionary War sites will in the absence of classroom instruction help educate future generations of citizens.  Preserved historic sites will help them to appreciate the war for American independence and the efforts to hold on to it".

Joe E. Harris, Executive Director of The Sons of the American Revolution

"Wars have played a central role in shaping the United States, and it is important that we preserve our battlefields to make sure that we understand this crucial dimension of our history. Only by preserving our battlefields can we fully understand the wars that we have fought and the extraordinary sacrifices of those who gave their blood for the good of the republic".

Prof. Don Hickey, Historian and Author

"The importance of preserving-- and where possible enhancing -- the battlefield sites of the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 cannot be overestimated.  They are priceless and irreplaceable places where real history can be studied and absorbed and imagined. Historical novelists, historians, and all lovers of America's history have a stake in such a program.

As a writer of both historical novels and history books, I have utilized existing sites to deepen my understanding of the events they witnessed. Without these sites, my books would have been forced to rely only on words. There is simply no substitute for these all but magical entities, which encompass both the past and the present".
